Anyone else think photobucket deserves to burn for what they just did? 15 years or more of forums just got the majority of their threads crushed. I get that they need to make $, but the way they made this drastic change was a slap in the face. Without warning they want $399 a year to be able to continue 3rd party photo hosting services. That number is just ridiculous...

I think if they started at $5-$10 a month or something more realistic they would get a lot of people biting the bullet and would make more money. I think this 0-$399 jump will make people despise them and utilize one of the other still free image hosting sites, as I have done.

I am beyond furious about it. I have been using them to host for as long as I can remember. I recently changed to hosting with tapatalk and directly through this forum. It may sound harsh, but I hope they have to shut down

I too, am absolutely furious about their tactics. I have used them exclusively for all of my online forums and now all of my pictures are gone on the forums. It will take me a long time to try to change all of the photos I have used on my threads to ones kept on my computer and it is daunting to say the least. I am not sure I can do it properly and am still thinking about whether it is worth the effort. I will never bow to their ridiculous demand for money and will never use them again.

What other free alternative choices do we have online now? I would like to try another site but, of course, am wary they will also change later and my forum photos will be gone again.

Sadly there is no other option that is garunteed to not do the same. Photobucket has been around for almost 2 decades and just now are deciding to pull this ransom. Yes, ransom is the only word I can think of. Sure, we can download all our photos still, but what about us who have hundreds hotlinked to dozens of sites like myself. They made this move after increasing storage sizes even. Now almost all of my old build and DIY threads across multiple forums are toast and won't be recovered unless I pay them.

Sadly the only thing garunteed is if you run a photo server from home. Any company can decide to do what they did at any time. The least they could have done was allow previous uploaded photos to stay and any new ones to not be hotlinked

I tried imgurl as well. With home networks and smart everything I can see more people having their own servers and hosting their own images going forward.

It is on my to do list. I have a 16TB NAS at home that I want to add a web service to for exactly that. Plus I have unlimited bandwidth from my ISP. Most people in Canada will struggle with bandwidth limtauons from their providers like Bell and Cogeco. God I hate them, but that is a whole other thread.

(flikr is hella-hard to get pic links to work on forums, so I'm not endorsing it at all...)

Downloading my albums is not working. I will have to go through and download each individual photo. FFS

Photobucket CEO John Corpus in July 12, 2017 at the Photobucket headquarters in Denver boasting and bragging about his unpopular decision to go from free to $399

http://www.denverpost.com/2017/07/16/photobucket-fee-hike/

Enough have paid the annual fee in the past few weeks to see “our revenue double since we’ve launched this initiative,” he said.

“While $400 is a lot more than nothing, it could be something small to pay as a business until you find something else,” Bullock said.

So apparently they disabled the album download feature unless you pay. Sorry, they didnt 'disable it' but it seems to constantly freeze, crash and not work unless you have a paid account. So you have to go through and download each photo individually. That is a huge pain in the ass because some people have several gigs of photos, aka hundreds if not thousands, and ever time you go to the next photo, there is a new bombardment of ads and popups.

I did find a $1.99 work around that worked for me. I downloaded Google Chrome browser and then grabbed the Photobucket Album Downloader (Unlimit) extension. It cost a whopping $1.99. Do not download the free version, it only allows you to download 100 photos. Took me a matter of minutes to download all the photos in all my albums. You have to do each album one at a time. If you do not want to do the download and installs your self or just want to avoid it all, feel free to PM me your info and I will download it for you and we can figure out a way to get them to you after that. Even if it is just burning to DVD data and I can bring it to Brantford Coral Show or mail it, I am also working on my own photo server hopefully this week. If you want me to download them, general curtious privacy and copyright will be followed. In other words, I will not save, or share anything I do. I will not make copies or even let anyone know I did it for you or even bring it up in the future. I stake my reputation on keeping your info/photos private. I do data recovery on hard drives with the same promise to people.

You can download Google Chrome HERE
Download the extension 'Photobucket Album Downloader (Unlimit)' HERE

I would act sooner rather then later before they figure out a way to stop this from working.
