Is 3500.00 a good price.?

Thats not awful, its right in line with the miracles quote i got a few months back. You can find cheaper however typically cost = quality. That being said i went with the cheaper approach.

That’s a good price. I’ve had my share of large tanks that’s about right in price. The Marineland 300DD stand and canopy are around $5000 starfire front. I’ve had them both in black and cherry cabinetry. My personal taste is I wouldn’t go with 36” tall huge PITA to work with. Maybe cut it down to 30” tall and go 96x30x30? The extra width is much better as well. I had a 480 gallon 86x30x44” tall impossible to work with. Would have taken a standard 300 over it any day.

I am getting excited waited 20 years to build a reef setup.
What type of pump, proteen skimmer do you use.
Starting to buy all the stuff needed to put this thing together.
Do you have mangroves in your sump?
Would a 75 gal sump be a good size?

A lot of it is dependent on money. The family had the 300 gallon DD set up as a reef at one point and we had a bubble king skimmer on it. Was very expensive we picked it up used for $1500 at the time. A 75 gallon sump is a good size personally I would go with a 125 or 110 6ft as it will add more options for your filtration and you will enjoy the added room. You can make a frag section in the sump. For a pump, a lot of people like hammerhead/barracuda and blue line pumps, again, personally,I have no complaints about the jebao series DC pumps. You can usually pick up 2 for the same price as one of any other pump. For circulation I would go with 2 mp40s In the upper water column both with battery backup. Maybe 3/4” up the tank. Then I would place one of the cheap amazon koralia knock offs right in the centre of the tank on the back wall with the outlets angled to the side. I bought the 3200gph ones and had no complaints about them, they can be angled (aimed) wherever you need flow. This will give a good circulation pattern in the larger tank

This is what I’m talking about for the koralia knock off. Wave maker is double, each can be pointed separately. Usually is on amazon for $32 each with prime. Very good supplemental flow

I have two tanks that were used for Africans, 1-54gal and another 75 gal tank.
I could joint the two together two make one larger sump.
I guess that would involve drilling a hole or two.
Never tried to drill holes in glass is that hard to do?
Do you think that would work ok?
Option two sell the old tanks and stands and get one larger tank.
I think I will go to a glass shop to get the glass for the partitions in the sump?
I have a moving company that will move the new tank into the house it weights about 700lbs.
I will build two 2x6 walls in the basement to support the floor.
Where would you place outlets from your main pump in the tank?
Can you please take some photos of you setup for me to have a look at?

Pm I can answer questions a lot faster that way with more detail. Returns I would put in the top corners one on each side or drill two returns in the overflow. If you have a 75 gallon I would just use the 75 gallon. The 480 pictured above had a bottom drilled return hole

You can definitely link sumps together but if your tank has dual overflow I would just have one sump run each overflow. That allows for more customization. You can have your equipment sump then the other could be a refugium or something
