I have some little yellow encrusting sponges in my 46 gal. tank. I was wondering if I could carefully remove a piece of sponge, glue it to a rock underwater and then transfer that to the biocube. I have been reading that the sponges help to absorb the silicates that create diatoms. I realize that the biocube has to go through this cycle but thought that maybe the sponge would help speed it up a bit.

Any thoughts on this?
