I've always just had them a couple inches under the surface, never used a check valve, with the 120 I currently have, 2 inches under the surface is about 10g.

Next big question!!!
the tank is a 72x18x14. I am looking for powerheads in the tank.
The return pump is a dct4000. so good for safely 1000gph.
I was thinking of 2 gyres or ai nero 5 on either end. will this move enough water?
is thisnlogical or look for smaller units on back glass pushing forward?

Mine is 72*30*24 and I'm using 4 MP40's on the back wall. 2 up high 2 down low. I had the gyres and didn't think much of them, but that is personal opinion. The only downside of the Nero is the cord in the tank, but against the black back it won't distract.

Got some plumbing done today.
I purchased a 1600gph overflow from reefcreators in USA.
I also got all my 3/4 return plumbing completed.
Need to complete the 3/4inch emergency drain and the 1 1/2 inch main drain.
Want to install a ball valve similar to Red sea to ensure I get a quite drain line.

question for some. Got a line on 2 xf250 maxspect gyres. thoughts on these on either side and possibly 2 rw4 under overflow for back flow?

any ideas on rockwork ideas?

That's what I'm doing, three islands, maybe only two, have to see how it turns out. Definitely want the open space, I have 15 fish now and maybe I see 2/3 if not feeding time.

Not sure if you decided on the pumps. I put 2x gyre 350 on my 6'x3'x3' and am very happy with the flow. I have the single controller with one gyre on each end. The get the water rolling through the tank pretty good definitely better then the 2 dart closed loop I had.

It looks really nice, I know 14 is shallow but now that the water is in it, it looks very shallow.

t is shallow. I changed water height with overflow. that needs another 2 inches lol. yes that looks crazy low.
gives me tank space with less volume. this works for my schedule ;)

I like it, build another cabinet that matches, have ATO in there carve out the front with touch screen for Apex.
