Anthias with pop eye

Hey all.  I have eight bi colour anthias and a few days ago all were looking beautiful.  Over the last couple days they seem to be developing pop eye.  Two have it on both eyes and two have it on one eye each.
What causes this?

So. After lots and lots and lots more reading and looking at pictures I'm pretty confident it is just ich.  Set up qt yesterday and let it get to temp today.  Put all fish in a ich-x bath for twenty minutes. Rinsed and into the start of hypo for the next few weeks.  May treat with cupramine if necessary.  So. My tank is fish less til beginning of May to eradicate the ich.  Yay(sarcasm)

So you have eight fish in total going into a QT for hypo salinity at 1.008-1.009. You use your 60 gal for this, right?

Test for Ammonia and Nitrites, because your QT will start a cycle in 4-5 days. Get ready for water changes.

And don't treat with cupramine in hypo.  Unless you want dead fish.
One of those ammonia alert change colour things that you
Stick inside your tank would be handy. When I did it I regularly treated with amquel instead of going crazy with water changes.  Not saying you don't have to do them. Lol.

No.  All my fish are in qt now.  15ish.
It's. 75 gallon qt tank.  I'm ready for water changes.  Sucks but needs to be done.

I am concerned with too many fish in a tank. Maybe is just me. Especially if you did not cycle the tank at 1.008. There is not enough bacteria and the tank will cycle big time. Ammonia kills. Have you done any hyposalinity treatments before? When I get back home,  I can share some data with you.

Oh!!! I'm concerned as well.  But I can't eradicate it from the DT if there are still fish in it.  Nope never done hypo before.  Reading tons and getting info from guys on RC.

Hi Dave,

I have done two hyposalinity treatments so far and I think they were successfully. I hate them, but if I have to do it again, I will do it. I don't have experience with Prime or Amquel and its effects on hypo salinity. I just want to give you some real examples of the most critical phase. In the tables below I posted only the cycling stage on both treatments.

My first treatment was for 3 fish (1 Yellow Tang and 2 Clowns). Used a 20G tank with a canister filter. Did not do a cycling before, so Ammonia was up to 1 ppm. I had to do lots of water changes to keep this level. On Nov 6 I added Ammonia pads to further help reducing. It took 2 weeks and about 200% water changes to pass the Ammonia stage.

Tables may look corrupted on Tapatalk, so for best viewing use Internet Explorer or similar.

And because when I bought new fish I cross-contaminated water by mistake, I placed all my fish in treatment. My second treatment was for 3 large fish (Yellow Tang, Purple Tang and Large Anthias) and 3 small fish (2 clowns and one Hipo). I did the treatment in a 50 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump. This time I cycled the tank before adding the fish. I had the tank at 1.009 for about 3 weeks and added dummy food in order to start cycling. Even if it was somehow cycled, there was a new cycle when I added the fish. It took two weeks to pass the Ammonia stage, but you can note the lower Ammonia levels and less water changes (only 15% compared to 200% on my previous treatment).

Thanks Boga.  All fish seem to be fine so far.  Did 10 gallon WC tonight.  Salinity is down to 1.011 now.
I am using prime to help with ammonia.
Need to stop at big ALS after work tomorrow for an ammonia badge or test kit.  All I have now for ammonia is test strips as I never really needed it other than for cycling purposes.

Hey Boga.
Ammonia has been between the safe and alert stages consistently.
15 gallon water change every two nights.
All fish are active and eating.  No heavy breathing or listlessness. No scratching.  The eyes on the anthias look better.  The ich isn't noticeable.  Keeping salinity constant with ato and WC.
Will continue for 3 more weeks then raise slowly and wait out my fallow period in DT.

I would get a amquel also.. It's for fresh or salt.. A few drops neutralizes ammonia pretty good.. Even if u can get away with 1/2 the water changes its worth it for 5 bucks

Pet smart does, but I think prime is just as good, amquel is supposed to remove nitrates also too tho, not sure about prime

Just checked. Prime removes ammonia and chloramine. Amquel removes ammonia and chloramine. Amquel Plus removes ammonia, chloramine, nitrites and nitrates. Both fresh and saltwater. Good to know for my next hyposalinity saga. Thanks.
