Just found an old box of reef crystals. Each bag has hardened like a brick. Im breaking it down and am wondering if it is still good. I dont think any moisture has penetrated the bags.

Thoughts on the matter?

Salt will take up moisture in the air and harden. Been there done it.

I smashed the salt back into not quite dust but as best I coudl do. It took a little longer to disolve in water.

At the time there was nothign really sensitive in the tank, fish and soft coral, few hardy sps. and all levels were mostly stable but not really controlled.

I did not notice any negative impact using the salt... I was only checking salinity though.

Thanks for the info, one bag is normal consistancy. Im going to use it and discard the others. My pricey corals arent worth trying the salt lol

On that note, is anyone using Aquaforest Reef Salt? Im looking to change, my old salt isnt supported by my LFS.
