how much is too much light? any thoughts. Im picking up a hallide fixture that is two bulbs and is listed at 400w. My tank is a 55g and im looking for a mixed reef tank as my end result. can corals just be light acclimated to new lights, with time and patience or will they bleach out and die with too much light regardless off acclimation.
Thanks!!

Whether or not a 400w on 55g is too much light is completely variable on the type of light fixture and the dimensions of the tank.

And yes sometimes light is just too strong for some corals and can bleach/kill them no matter how much you try to acclimate them.

The heat that the 400W (I assume 2x 400W) will put out over a 55 will cook it, let alone we a complete waste/overkill.  I had 400W over my tank so I do know what I'm talking about.  Hell I talked someone out of buying my lights for that reason...
