My Plumbing has been dismantled, I have a question about a PVC Union 1 1/2 inch, When you unscrew the union or take it apart the side with no threads has a rubber 0 ring its approx 1 1/2 inch, now the other part that screws into the Union has a groove near the outside of the fitting. My question is, is there supposed to be an 0 ring there as well?  I bought the tank from another guy and am not sure about the unions. If there was a site that was AN Anatomy of a Union I'd know LOL

Could you post a picture of the plumbing so we can see what you mean?  Sometimes, I have trouble visuallizing  :)

nope your good, make sure the flat edge is nice and dry when you tighten them up and your good to go.

edit..

actually looking at your photo thats a tough call, my unions only had 1 o-ring on one side.. that one looks like it could use 2 o-rings.

yeah, hard to say. one o-ring should work it tightened enough, but if you look at the side with the o-ring in it you can see the same impression that is created where the o-ring sits on the other side.

I'm curious that if it was to have a second o-ring on the outside,  would create stress or pull on the union not having it there.?
