Setting Up A New Tank??

hello everyone, so I'm fairly new to this hobby and I would just like to know a little bit more. Any advice would be appreciated. So let's say that I want to setup a 120 gal tank. Can someone please run me through each and every step from the beginning, such as: chemicals needed, time you need to cycle, things that you need to do do your tank before you add water, or just any info. Thanks so much! Also, why do you need a sump? What exactly is a sump?

Thank you, I will definitely read this. I've just purchased a book on setup as well. I was planning a mixed reef, few SPS, more LPS. Some larger fish,such as tangs. And some clowns, cardinals. Etc.
