Shedd Aquarium

John+G_+Shedd+Aquarium+building.jpg

The John G. Shedd Aquarium is an indoor public aquarium in Chicago, Illinois in the United States that opened on May 30, 1930. The aquarium contains over 25,000 fish, and was for some time the largest indoor aquarium in the world with 5,000,000 US gallons (19,000,000 l; 4,200,000 imp gal) of water. The Shedd Aquarium was the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection. It is surrounded by Museum Campus Chicago, which it shares with the Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum of Natural History. The aquarium has 2 million annual visitors; it was the most visited aquarium in the U.S. in 2005, and in 2007, it surpassed the Field Museum as the most popular cultural attraction in Chicago. It contains 1500 species including fish, marine mammals, birds, snakes, amphibians, and insects. The aquarium received awards for best exhibit from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) for Seahorse Symphony in 1999, Amazon Rising in 2001, and Wild Reef in 2004.

My trip to Shedd Aquarium last year.

The aquarium was great. We spent almost a full day between the Aquarium and the Chicago Field Museum just accrosed the road. For some reason I didnt take any picture of the huge reef tank.

Here are some pics from our trip.

Brandon its probably because your pictures are too large.

Check out the thread below on how to upload pics to the forum. (specifically option #1)

I have fallen on the same issue, it is not so much that the pics are too big, for me it is that they are large and the web browser times out while waiting for all that data to upload. I found that there were no issues when I do one photo at a time. Also, I typically use photobucket.com to upload the photos there to share here.

A few photos from shedd aquarium. Went there yesterday, it was absolutely packed as I guess on long weekends they let people from Illinois in for free.

That's awesome, to be honest though other than sheer size most of public aquariums have nothing on even median lvl hobbyists

Yes I can definitely say that the majority of the hobbiest on here have something nicer going on then what I seen there. But I don't think anyone has any 12' fish swimming in there tank.
