hey everyone im new to the hobby as you can tell by the question. Ive had the tank for just over a week. Its a 24g, 30 punds of live rock, a snail, a crab, and a clown fish.
Should I start them now?
or when should I?
Thanks,
Mason

start now, get a baseline so you know which way things are going later.
test ca, alk, mag, nitrates for sure, these are most important, since the tank is new i would also do ammonia and nitrite, i wouldn't add fish till ammonia and nitrites are 0, don't add corals for 4 to 6 months.

then ammonia and nitrite will probably be 0, but wouldn't hurt to check, once a tank is mature you only need to keep an eye on nitrates.
our systems with live rock easily handle the ammonia and nitrite, unless something dies in which case you will get an ammonia spike if you don't get it out, nitrate is much harder and usually accummulate over time.
ph and salinity should be tested to, most ph tests are crap thou, ph monitor is the way to go
