So i did some testing today to find my N03 between 50-100! Never had nitrates so high before. No wonder some of my sticks look like shit. 0 p04 present. Not sure how to combat this considering i didnt have the best luck cyano wise using biopellets. Any help is appreciated.

Riley.

algae scrubber and mangroves man i cant get nitrates to register and i more than overfeed. and everbody knows i dont do water changes lol. otherwise wc or more media. i took my algae scrubber offline temporarily just to get no3 to register. ive never been successfull at controling nitrates any other way thats why i stick to fuge and scrubber. if the ocean took millions of years to become what it is now who am i to question or change its ways lol.thats just my outlook anyhoo

steve, you could raise fish and corals in a mud puddle, you have the luck. not sure I would call it a green thumb but a thumb with scales..lol..

research research research and alot of money on books lol. Dont look at what your coral need or what your fish need.... think of the ecosystem as a whole, one broken link and the chain falls apart. Every action will have a positive and a negative reaction figuring all those is the PITA thats why i rely on those smart biologists to shorten the learning curve for me.

My best guess would be over feeding. How much space do you have (or don't have)? What is your feeding routine? Are you feeding lots of frozen, but not rinsing it first? If so, that can really jack up your nitrates. You may want to check out this thread on RC on siporax:

Otherwise, BP are probably your best bet to combat nitrates, assuming your RO/DI, DSB, Rocks, Feeding habits etc. aren't the easily corrected source of your issues.

I believe its a 25-30g. And im pretty sure thats almost as big as i can fit. Unless i clear out the other side of my stand where my ato bucket and doser and dosing jugs are and put in a tank thats drilled as close to the top as possible.

A. Get someone else to test your water ASAP before doing anything. If your test is not correct, you could kill everything off.

B. What skimmer are you running and feed schedule.

C. Everything in a reef set up is a balance. Phosphates work with nitrates and oxygen. An increase in nitrates may be followed by an increase in phosphates. As phosphates increase algae blooms can occur. With the increase in algae growth and decomposition, the dissolved oxygen levels will decrease and the circle of life continues. You are removing an element of the process. But maybe one of the chemical guys and step up and clarify the process.
