My Seahorse Cube And Babies

that is too bad, you have worked so hard to keep these babies alive.. is there anything that could have been done. I have been doing a lot of reading and they talk about air pockets and is this something that is common ?

There was nothing Steve could have done to prevent the death as these little ones often die for no reason. As to air or gas bubbles in seahorses one of the main causes is poor water quality once they have grown up. When they are little their swim bladder sometimes malfunctions or the air shows up after they have died and isn't the actual cause of death.

deaths are always expected. coulda been anything really but 21 others are doing great.... dont know what to do with them all. plus their batches will get bigger my adults are only around 2 years and im still perfecting my madness

no there are only three there those were all ones from yvette and doing great. the one male has 1/4" long cirri near bottom of neck an back of head so im hoping they get bigger and branchy looking. One of the 3 survivors of the very first batch is a monster and twice the size of its two siblings. Should be able to sex them soon and another month ill put the one huge one in with ma and pa.

Still have just over 20 survivors of this batch. Which isnt bad at all for under 200 fry. Cant wait for the big batches to come :). I also have a full pound of brine shrimp eggs coming in for me which saved me alot compared to buying smaller amounts.

thanks for all the kind words.... maaybe we need a "seahorse" category it seems to get lots of traffic... maybe encourage some more newcomers. even considering how much work goes into these little guys i still believe its easier to keep seahorses alive than corals lmao :)

My big debate now is once i move to the house what am i to do. I love to be able to see my tanks everyday and hate my current reef being in the basement where i never am. Other than a daily check i dont get to enjoy it too much. Im thinking of having a 75 gal corner tank built in wall where i will house more seahorses but havnt had good luck with zoas added and i dont know if i can rid myself of zoas and sps i honestly think i would cry like a baby without my reef. Plus im a fan of tangs and they dont get along so well with ponies.

If them sea horses were not so much work and would romp around in a reef type tank or even a more natural looking one. I would be more inclined towards getting them.

The bare bottom and plastic links and fake plants just don't do it for me personally.

do what I am doing, 3 tanks.. 1 fowlr, 1 mixed reef and 1 for the ponies...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

i only have barebottom in the breeder with the babies.... adults have sandbed with some lr, plastic chains that float a feather duster and a massive brittle star. Adults are easy feed in morning feed at night basic maintenance once a week and enjoy thats really it. Now with babies lmao they are worse than a job haha you literally start brine everyday... then every other day.... gut load with phyto and hufa supplement then feed 4-6 times a day. Then after what seems like forever you have to start adding chopped mysis to the mix so you can stop the brine which is even more work added ..... as you can tell i must like seahorses..... ALOT because most people would go insane lol :) im ok for the moment tho i think.

The corals dont do well because of the cooler water. Unfortunately raising temp may hurt my seahorse as it can make them prone to all kinds of infections so will have to figure a reef somehow.

@SamB yes there probably will be another build thread in the future but house has to get gutted and all new plumbing and wiring. Then ill set up my 3 tier tank for the babies as well.

yay my first 3 survivors are 8 months old and the 17 from the other batch are 6 months... all of them have been eating mysis for a long while now. will be sad to see the lil guys go but places are already set to find them a new home. one of my babies im keeping shes the only one thats all white where all the others are black with the typical pattern. the other one im keeping is a giant at 8 months he is 1/3rd the size of my adults and twice the size of his brothers and sisters. will add some pics in a bit
