I think if I added more pods to my fuge they would just pick up the tank and walk away with it. It's like a little war zone in there. Pods eating amphipods. Like little praying mantis.

You will never be able to sustain enough pods in that tank to keep a mandarin. Way too small, and too young of a tank. I would not recommend buying any fish for that size a tank that isn't already eating something aside from live pods.
Ok. What do you recommend it to be eating? Mysis, krill, enriched brine?

Big ALS kitchener , has some very nice mandarins. I asked them what they are currently being fed, was told brine shrimp. Is that a good indication that if bought they will accept brine shrimp and be ok without a life time supply of pods?

How willing are you to breed brine shrimp daily?

A tank should be minimum a 30 gal with lots of rock and have been online stocked for at least a year before you even think about trying to host a dragon. You can't train fish. You starve them until they are willing to try something else. If they are not willing they die.

Brine shrimp is not a nutritious meal for them. It's more of a treat than anything. No fish will thrive, let alone survive for very long on brine shrimp. These types of fish forrage for live pods every waking moment, so if you don't have enough to sustain them, they will just waste away and die. If you look closely at fish stores, many times they already have sunken bellies from being starved.

I was lucky when I purchased my Mandarin. He was eating frozen Mysis and loving them. I made sure he was eating frozen before I bought him and have never regretted it. He now resides with my seahorses and eats all the leftovers that are in the tank. A Win, Win situation. He is fat and happy. I have had him for over 3 years now. Do your research well, watch them eat frozen in the fish store before you buy and, if you really want one, get a larger tank.
