I am thinking about switching from EVS B-ionic 2 part plus mag to Fauna Marine Balling salts. Most specifically purchasing the Fauna Marin Balling Light Starter kit ($159.99).

I am reading up now on it, but I am looking for someone here who uses it and can give some guidance outside the normal box. It does not seem the same as 2 part as the kit comes with 2 mag, 2 cal and only 1 carbonate which differs from 2-part that does 50/50 cal/alk.

I am onto my second jar of magnesium and still on my first jar of alc and Calc
And I have barely touched the supplements (color) jars. After two or three days I saw a difference right away. The pe on the corals was noticeably improved and within a couple weeks the acros already were starting to Color up.
The Calculator that FM has is awesome you test once and then test a couple days later put the numbers into the Calculator in the program they give you and you get your exact dosing amounts it's pretty amazing

Can I get an idea of how much you use and levels?
I'm using for all supplements: 8 table spoons = 64g for 1 liter of RO.
60ml per day for 60g tank of Calcium and Carbonate.
Magnesium about 100ml now - but should be tested frequently, sometimes it's jumping up and down. Last month I dosed 60ml.
So started point would be:
- 64g for 1L.
- 1ml per gallon daily
- test it every 3-7 days until settled
Working fine, no noticeable difference between B-ionic or Seachem product: I've tried all of them.

I have been using it a few months, and so far have been happy with it. I did not bother with the starter kit However, I just went right into the large 4kg jars, and the trace elements. I have been using the FM salt, for about 10 months now and have been happy with it. Very consistent, mixes well etc. Same with all their pellet foods. Fish love it, and a good variety is offered. I've been happy with all the Fm products so far.

I looked up randy holmes Farleys 2 part recipes and they are the exact same ingredients as FM ultra balling light, but a lot cheaper. If you mixed the main ingredients from Randy's recipe, and added the balling trace elements, it would probably save some $$.

Balling Light instructions

Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium balance is essential to the health of your reef tank. Many nutrients are depleted as corals grow in this controlled environment. Fauna Marin has created the Balling Light System to help maintain levels of alkalinity, calcium and magnesium.

Manufacturer's Instructions:

1st 5 L Container

  1. Dissolve 2 kg of calcium chloride dihydrate in 4 liters of RO water and then fill the container with RO water.
  2. NOTE: Always add the salt to the water - never vice versa!
  3. Then add 25 mL Balling Light 1 - Color & Grow Elements and 25 mL Balling Light Trace 2 - Metabolic Elements to the container.
2nd 5 L Container

  1. Dissolve 2 kg of magnesium chloride hexahydrate in 4 liters of RO water and then fill the container with RO water.
  2. This new method does not require magnesium sulphate as it would accumulate in the water. Nothing else is added to this canister
3rd 5 L Container:

  1. Dissolve 500 g of Carbonate Mix in 4 liters of RO water and then fill the container with RO water.
  2. Then add 25 mL Balling Light Trace 3 0 Health Elements to container.
VS Randy's recipe...

All mixed, wow the calcium got warm. I am glad I only added 1kg then shook and not the full 2kg then mixed. The Carbonate is not mixing nicely though. There is still a lot on the bottom even with warm RO/DI

Yes that was slightly annoying to me also; especially when I put it in my Apex dosing containers I was worried that it was going to block off the suction tube because as I found out after the first time if you poured that precipitate into your dosing container it ends up solidifying to almost rock in the bottom. so from then on I waited for it to settle and only pour the liquid into the dosing containers
