I would think you would be fine. How quick it would fill up would be the other question. I have the socks if you have a pump to push 1200+ GPH of water we can try it.

I run about 2000 gph through a 4\" 100 micron, change it every 2 days.

I use a 7\" 200 micron felt over 1200gph clean every few days.  When I change to my large sump I will be setting it up for two 7' socks.
How deep in the water is the sock going? Do you folks have a posted picture of your sumps including the sock holder, pls?

Mine sits in about 12" of water, no holder just around my 2 1.5" drainpipes.  When I build the new sump I will be doing an overflow through the socks like these commercial sumps use.  Great idea IMO.

Thank you much.

My plan is to build a filtering box, where I could either insert a sock, or filter floss or just leave it running without anything.

I would use 2, just because. Too bad you couldn't put 2 side by bside and have a swivel pipe to direct them, I guess you could do it with pipe and valves, easy for changing them. I'm gonna be putting in a new sump, looking for ideas, thanks Boga LOL

That would be good: pipes and valves, pipes and plugs, running one or both.
What scares me is the size of two 7" socks side by side, plus something between, it goes at 16-17" box width......

I'm gonna do the same but use 4 inch socks, 300 Micron to start then possibly put floss in them to catch more. My sump with be a 40 breeder so 18 inches to play with but try and incorporate a Fuge in there as well or not, Maybe half of the next  compartment,
