Advice- Acrylic Tanks

Good Day everyone

Ive got my eye on a large acrylic tank

it is used, and has a bit of coraline on it, so im worried about scratched

how easy are they to buff out?

Ive never owned acrylic, and am a bit weary on trying one.

anyone have good/bad experiance?

And advice is appreciated

Apparently pretty easy to buff out. You need special scrapers for it. They are also less prone to catastrophic failure from impacts.

To be honest, if I go any bigger than my current size, it will be acrylic.

Scratches are easily removed using sandpaper. Once you are down to 2000 grit, you can polish it clear using Novus 2 scratch remover. Use a sander that has a random orbit and use overlapping strokes to keep it prefectly smooth. Keeping the inside of an acrylic tank scatch free is the hard part. If you run the system with no sand bed it would go along way to keeping the inside scratch free. Acrylic tanks are clearer than any available glass, which make them so much nicer to look at.

I have used muratic acid successfully to remove coralin off of acrylic tanks before it works perfectly without any risk of scratching Diluted properly there is no risk to the acrylic

+1 muriatic will not harm acrylic. Be certain not to mix the acid with water in the tank and when you dilute it, always add acid to water not water to acid as significant heat will be released.
