Mods - sorry i should have posted this in the DIY section.

I didn’t want to highjack the current Getting Lost in the LED World thread but wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with LED strip lighting like the roll you can buy that offers different colours and remote control etc. I know most, if not all of these are no good for our purpose but wasn’t sure if there is anything new on the market that have the power for reef needs? The simple answer is likely ‘no’ but thought Id ask the brain trust here :)
The reason I ask is that I currently use 2 48” Marineland Reef LED light bars and they have been great since day 1 of my 48” long 90g. Over the past 5+years I have successfuly grown lps, zoas, leathers and yes even sps. I love the low profile of these lights that sit on the tank and would probably buy them again but they’re not being made anymore. The problem is that I am starting to have a few banks of the lights fail meaning fix or buy new lights. I took them apart but the LED’s themselves are not easily replaceable and it seems that salt creep is more of the culpret on the circuit board itself. So I got to thinking of options to just save my pennies to buy new lights but honestly Im having a tough time finding some that will work for me as I dont want to hang the lights as I like the low profile look I currently have. There are cheapies on the market like the Marinelands but probably just wasting $ in the long run. I thought I could order separate leds bulbs from the many diy threads and solder a new board reusing the current light fixture and then I got thinking that maybe there are led stip lights that I could just install in the light fixture using the current lens holes to align the leds. This would certainly be much easier than all the soldering etc to affix each bulb separately.
Your expereince or knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Discussion thread works well for this. When you get around to the DIY, then do up a build thread in there. I am not aware of any new types like that. Pretty sure Reef Brite strips are going to be your best bet unless you DIY something. With you liking the look of the Marineland, then a DIY will really take away from that completely. You can not really do much with the Marineland Reef LED that I know of. So stuck back on the Reef Brite https://aquarium.bulkreefsupply.com/search?w=reef brite&asug=
