I had a RO 150 internal. I used it on a 150 g and it did ok, but I had to do 20% WEEKLY wc on my tank to stay even with the algae. I am using it on my frag tank now. I bought an MRC MR3 and in 4 days I can't even see in the skimmer and a bucket is full of stinky skim. I likely wouldn't go back to a needle wheel.

How do you find noise on it? I remember I had a big @$$ Beckett skimmer at one point. Thing just rocked, but was noisey.

There's a bit of a hum. The skimmer has some Mickey mouse injector on it that looks home made. I ordered the right one from MRC which will be here tomorrow. Service is excellent thus far. Will post some pics of the scum after 5 days. It's nasty!

The skimmate out of my reef octopus is not liquid by any stretch, it's "scoop it out" gunk. I'm pretty sure mine is a needle wheel pump... But people can have different experiences, I find algae on the glass is pretty much impossible to avoid, even when I ran an ultra ultra low nutrient system, the glass still needed daily cleaning.

I have to clean mine off as well, the skim mate is a gooey mess. Kinda like white glue consistency. But rinsing it won't take it off. I have rub it off with my hands.
