Couldnt stand another day of looking at my 220 gallon tank languishing in the basement, waiting for me to have somewhere to set it up! So, I bought a used Red Sea Max130 on Kijiji and set it up  ;D.

Right off the bat Ive noted a few things I would change and with at least 3 or 4 weeks to wait before I can introduce the clean up crew I thought I'd pick your collective brain to see if anyone out there has one  and what, if any, modifications have you done to it?

Only constructive comments and advice please, its up and running so hearing from people who dont like them isnt of much use. Thanks in advance.

I like them, but I think you've got to mod it pretty heavily to get it right, But I do like the cabinets. you should look at the big ones.

Ya, as soon as I cleaned it up and started getting it ready I decided to do some upgrades! Changed the pumps out for a kit from mediabaskets.com, also installed the skimmer weir which comes standard with the RSM 130D.

Im planning on replacing the skimmer in the new year, likely with a Tunze 9002 as it fits with the media basket upgrade.

I decided to try out the Jebao WP25, got it last night and although the instructions are pure jibberish, once I dialed it down to its lowest setting, trial and error, I had a perfect standing wave in my cube!

An update! The Jebao WP25 is working flawlessly and the tank inhabitants seem very happy with the wave and its super quiet. The light sensor on the controller detects light at the controller so I'm going to have to rig something up so that it detects the tank lights and not the ambient light in the room. Time to pull out the McGiver knife and pick up a few bits and bobs at the Source, I'm thinking 10 bucks should enable me to mod it.

If anyone is looking for an economical wave maker, I'd recomend the Jebao WP 25 but not for anything smaller than a 30 gallon tank or you will end up with water on the floor.

careful with that light diode being close to ur tank lights. ive seen several reviews that they r very sensitive to strong lighting. they die >:D its recommended that u use a bulb under the cabinet to trigger it just have it on a timer the same as ur lights. :)

Poseidon,

The Red Sea has been running for about 5 weeks now. I have about 35lbs of live rock, a pair of Darwin Clowns, a Six Line Wrasse, an Alage Blennie, 10 blue leg hermits, 4 turbo snails, and an Emerald Crab. Not really up on coral names but here's what I've got. Blue Snowflake Polyp colony, Green Torch, Alveopora, 2 Favias, a Duncan and a variety of Zoas.

As far as the 220 goes, I had started buying bits and pieces just before I got separated so....! Its sitting in my basement, in its packaging since last April and likely wont see water for a few months yet, once Ive moved. Might have to pick your brain as I was planning on building it into a wall in my basement and would still like to to that, where ever I end up.

Nexusnight, yeah, I read the warning about not exposing the sensor to strong light so my plan is to solder a sensor, you can buy them from any electronic supplier, onto a wire and mount it to the side of the aquarium where it would detect light through the glass, should work. I'll update you when its done.
