Has anyone ordered on of these yet? Just curious about initial impressions, etc. For $149, I think it is the best bang for the buck. Includes temp probe and 4 programmable outlets and room for expansion, not to mention internet connectivity!

Here's the link....  http://www.neptunesys.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=61&Itemid=40

If enough people are interested, maybe we can arrange some sort of group buy through neptune systems.

I just got the full apex, I can see 4 outlets definitely not being enough.  I also don't think it has the 2 variable speed ports? I can see those being the most useful.  I've already used 7 outlets, and plans to wire the LED's into the variable ports (as well as wavemakers when I finally fork out the cash for them).  I think the apex jr. might be good for a very very basic setup, but anything else definitely benefits from the extra features of the apex (although for the $750 I paid to get it here....I dunno)

I'm using the Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper Lite setup.  I'm really liking it and I have everything running off it.  I'm planning to install my ATO using it this week.

Controllers are awesome, programming them is not.

I have been communicating with Curt, the owner of Neptune Systems. He said that the APEX JR is upgradeable with a VDM to get variable speed ports if desired.

By the time things are upgraded, you might be further ahead buying the full APEX system. It all depends on what functionality is wanted.

Right now reefgeek has a clearance special on Neptune System's dimmable lunar leds. You can get kits that contain anywhere from 2 to 5 leds.

According to Curt, these kits are fully compatible with the APEX JR. He recommended 1 led per 24 inches. They have reflectors and are 470nm , so they should provide a nice effect. They can also  mimic the lunar cycle, with variation in intensity anf timing of operation. Something to think about...

They are quite easy to program from the panel or through a web interface.  Ipod touch works fine, as does my blackberry oddly enough.  Expensive but awesome.  I'm just now figuring out how to hook my DIY LED's to the variable speed ports, looks easy once I grab some rj45 connectors...

the jr doesnt come with an interface, so the only way to program it is with the iphone app or web interface. One of the reasons its so cheep, they cut out everything they could to make it affordable.

They will be offering it with the interface but it'll be $100 more.  If you have the iphone / ipod touch / connected to network and pc then the display is not really needed imo.  Rather spend the 100 extra and set it up for PH monitoring or something

on the same token, why bother with the screen at all if all you have to do is open an app on your phone....or open up a web brouser for all it matters.

I ordered from reefgeek...$149 plus $10 shipping, hopefully will get it by the weekend.

I only got the base unit as I need to pace myself (for now) ;)

I need the 8 outlet Energy Bar, maybe a X-mas present if I can wait that long.
