Are wave boxes becoming old school technology?

With the proven effectiveness and low prices of the Jeboa wp25-40-60, is it even neccessary to add a wave box to a reef system?

I noticed on the fishstreet webpage no longer carries the old fishstreet waveboxes.

Watching a video on the site, it looks like the WP-60 unit can really make some nice wave action on its own!  8)

If it works, use it.  I'm beginning to truly dislike the MP 40.  I might go with a jebo just to cut the noise.  I've got the thing on constant flow now and it's still driving me nuts.

I don't think I'll be trading in the wavebox anytime soon though, but my hope would be that almost EVERYONE does sell theirs off so I'd have a nice cheap backup box :)

The noise on the MP40 can be a problem, I have found that it needs to be tweaked and positioned well to minimize noise. On some modes the whining is unavoidable from the dry-side. Luckily my tank is downstairs and not in a bedroom so it isnt really an issue.

I agree, maybe theyangman should even sell his wave box, since its old technology. ;)

This might sound crazy but my next tank will be a 3 sided peninsula with dual external wave boxes on the back wall..
The concept itself will never be old tech, even with a good wave with an wp40 u still miss the big reverse surge u get with a box.

Not to create a debate but Darryl u should see the wp40 in action at Sealife. She's been running strong for 6 months and creates a better wave than the mp 40 ever did on the same tank.
I have two for my 140 and am only running one right now. Maybe when my tanks fills in with sps I'll be able to run both without blasting everything away lol. All in all I think wp40, mp40 and tunze wave boxes and pumps are all great and give good viable options depending on ur ones pocketbook

I think he means a wave box is better than an mp/wp40

I've see the Wave Box on Dereks tank and they are quite big even for his 180, The Echo Tech pumps are terrible long term, Noisy and the bearings don't last . And too pricey, I don't have really good power heads but the Jeabo look interesting, I'm getting side tracked sorry, Wave Boxes are too big for our smaller tanks
