I just got one of these in my sump with a hose to a 5 gal pail. Drill hole in side/bottom of bucket and silicone it. Got the bucket stacked ontop of another pail behind the tank for leverage.
I fill the pail ever 3-4 days

I wouldn't trust my life on those Kent Marine floats, I had the same one from MOPS and it failed after about 2 years. Not bad, but they don't last forever, so some redundancy built into the system in case of float valve failure is a good idea IME. I'm going to be following this thread, I'm trying to sort out my water storage and ATO at the moment as well.

Just like pumps, everything needs maintainance and cleaning. Been running mine for over 7yrs. Never an issue. I still take a quick glance everyday other day while feeding fish, worst case if it did fail/clogged, I'm only going to be down my daily evaporation, at least i'm not lugging water to the tank every day. I wouldn't trust it going on vacation more than a day or two. But either way I have people watching my tank when I do.

It's not the clogging that guys worry about its the staying open and endlessly filling the system. That's why I run my from a 10gal tank not direct connection to rodi line

I have two toms from my 5.5 g ato. Since doing that I have not had a clog or runtime stop. I have also played with the runtime inside the unit. Fingers crossed....but the next time I have an issue I think I am going to go with a micro pump with more flow for shorter time too.

I think used JBJ is the way to go but I'm biased!
Whatever route you go, ato instead of monitoring and topping off manualy is fantastic. Just need to maintain floats or drop the $ on fancy lasers!
