Can anyone gimme some ideas on how tall I should make the baffles in the return section. I plan on only having two baffles total in the sump. Water will drain in on the right hand side. Whole area will be open. Two baffles at far left to block bubbles. I calculated that if I do a 12x12x10 return section I will have approx 6 gallons of water. If my siphon ever broke my pump would only drain out those 6 gallons of water and based on the level of my dt it will not overflow. The large open section in the sump will house live rock, heater and skimmer. Pump will be 1900 gph with a return split in two and a bypass back into the sump. Chime in with thoughts and opinions. I wanna keep it simple as my last sump I found caused me more problems with detritus building up between baffles... Tks

don't forget to calculate how much water will drain back into the sump if the pump stops, and the minimum water level of your skimmer.
try to keep your skimmer compartment higher so the display can drain back without raising the level in the skimmer comp. causing it to overflow

Ya I think my original design for my 10 gal sump is prob the best. The skimmer water level never changed. Skimmed great. And never had a prob. Gonna mimic it again in the 55. Might do the return pump in the middle and have it drain on both sides of the sump. Already came home to my skimmer overflowing.... thank god it was in sump
