I do mine at 1/6 ratio bayer/tank water, let them sit in it for 15-20, rinse in RO FOR A SECOND, then I do it one more time for 15-20 again, RO RINSE, plane tank water let them sit for a few min, place in the frag tank for observation:) or display tank your option...

I use 'DIY coral dip' by GuyWalker1219.


In short I use 8mls of bayers in 1L of tank water. Dip for 5-10 min and rince thoroughly in clean tank water.

Honestly, I beat aefw after trying every type of dip. The winner? Melafix marine at 4 caps per gallon. Even coral RX didn't kill em. I've seen monti eating nudis fall right off after a dip in melafix marine. I've never lost an sps frag since switching, while I lost lots right after dips in the other dip products.

The one thing I try to keep as a rule - if I need to wear gloves or a mask to use a product to treat something for my tank - I dont use it.

Try melafix marine. You won't be disappointed.

Just did a search on this stuff and it sounds very interesting. From my understanding it's not as chemically harsh as Bayer and is available in Canada. It also seems to be about half the price of Coral RX. I may have to give this stuff a try. Here are a couple links to check out regarding both ...

And just another thought here. Since the Melafix is supposed to be for bacterial and fungal infections wouldn't it be possible that it may also help the coral recover from any such infections?

It might. I do all sps, so when they get "sick" it's usually not good lol

All I can tell you is that I don't have any pests in my systems now. I tried revive and coral RX and lost have my sps. I tried melafix and haven't lost any from pests.

The thing is is that it is gentle enough that if you get an Acro crab or something in a colony, you can just reach in and grab it and it will live. With Bayer etc - not so much.

I watched aefw live through a dip in coral RX, which stuns them. Melafix (tea tree oil) KILLS. BUGS. DEAD.

Funny how that guy in the vid has so many parasites sitting on the bottom of that container. Eggs? Did I hear eggs? Nah. Just chuck em in the reef.

For my new coral on Sunday first time tried Bayer.

Proportion:
1 Bayer to 10 water
Steps:
15 minutes in Bayer
RO bath a couple of secconds
15 minutes in clean aquarium water
Rinse
15 minutes in another clean aquarium water
Rinse
Go to a tank.
Carbon in a tank.

Result:
On first and a second day coral still stressed - no polyp extension so far.
Fish is doing well: healthy and eating as usually.
Gammarus are not active anymore - looks like they are slowly dying.

Overdose?
