So I had to change my sump, I had a deep sand bed in the old sump that had been running for about a year. I've been doing sone reading and some people say you can clean it and reuse it. Some people say start over with new sand.

Does anyone have experience with this?

you can clean it and reuse but it requires alot of rinising and it will smell like rotten eggs.

sand is pretty cheap so getting a new DSB isnt a huge cost. May want to look into a remote deep sand bed so you can swap it out with ease once its no longer any good.

Buy new sand. I recently tried the rinse method and lost a lot of live stock. Phi is right. Sand is cheap.

I rinsed all my sand from my old DSB tank ... never had a single issue

I'm actually experimenting to see if this is going to work for me or not, So far Ammo, Nitrates and Nitrites are all through the roof. I'll let you know how it goes over the next couple weeks. And yup had the rotten egg smell but it went away in about two days.

I actually really like it. not the quietest but not the loudest, worth what you pay for it imo. I think mine is the 4500

I'm assumming it's still alive?

@ room temp

I use my display tank water and fill 3 x 5G pail's  1/4 of the way. Then I divide the sand into 3 portion's

Then pour each portion into it's own pail with salt water.

Then tip the pail and empty all the water off of the top of the sand from each bucket.

You may have to repeat the whole procedure 2 x if it's really dirty.
