So I ran this contest in March last year on another forum but there was only 11 participants as it’s not strongly Canadian. Only one of the winners capitalized as well. If I can find the old rules I will use them. I’m assuming the mods will be fine with this contest, they are generally in favor of free stuff. So basically it will be a photo contest. You will have a given time period to submit the photo of your choice to me, photo must be fish/reef/aquarium related. There will then be a thread created with each photo in a poll. Photos will be voted on. More votes increases your chances of winnings. All photos will be given automatic 1 vote. My vote counts as 2. Percentages for each will be added to a wheel and then spun for 2-3 winners. Last year I gave away a brand new 36” and 48” led to the top 2 (most likely similar prize as that’s what I sell, I allowed upgrade options at differential cost last year so a guy took a 72” instead of 48” for $160 difference). Maybe a sump, ato, or something Custom this year? Will also give option to take really anything used I no longer need. If not interested in a light I’m selling I will happily e-transfer you my cost for the light (Better to take light and sell on kijiji if you don’t want it). If interested just post in this thread “interested”. Will most likely run contest in March again. Also, if anyone else is interested in contributing some prizes we can allow for more winners (you can still participate as well, your vote will count as 2). Keep it to hobby related goods.

Cool idea , around a year ago we use to have a few members that would host “photo of the month” and everyone would pitch ideas to the select people running the photo of the month page and everyone would post a pic to related topic and there was a deadline and at the deadline everyone could vote and winner would win a frag of some sort ,

It was always a lot of fun even if you didn’t win it was nice to see everyone commit so I bet I could see this going far ! Great idea Matt.

Yup the exact same idea. Got it from another forum and ran one. Only twist is that everyone gets a chance to possibly win. So even if your photo skills are not the best there is still hope for you

Last year I had 11 entries and 70 people voted. One photo dominated 60% of votes so obviously got first. 2nd wheel got normalized with that 60% removed and 2nd winner I think had something like 15%? All were good submissions though.

It is a contest of camera quality and chance. As the description says every participant will have a “chance” of winning. All entries automatically receive 1 vote. Yes getting more votes increases you odds which could be determined by camera quality. However in the last contest a participant entered a photo of a salmon he caught and showed the teeth. Ended up receiving 6 votes and the picture was taken with an Android

Most phones can get pretty great photos if you know how. No harm in throwing Thor hat into the ring anyways
