Sad day today. I came home to my copperband stuck to the side of my powerhead. Must have been there log and not strong enough to escape. I'm pretty bummed out... It was doing great too....

I had one that died as well last winter. Beautiful fish but after doing some more research on the web this is a common occurrence. Not sure if it is how they are captured or just very delicate. I personally have decided not to repurchase a replacement and leave them in the Ocean.

This is a tough fish to keep long term. When you are successful though I can guarantee that this fish will become a favorite. I have a pair in my 160 and they are doing really well. They beg for Mysis shrimp every time I come near the tank. If you have aggressive eaters in your tank this fish is not right for you. I have one bully obese purple tang that has to be led off to the opposite end of the tank with his own meal while the passive fish eat at the other end. I just dump frozen cubes right into the tank and they pick at it as it melts.

So far so good, I love these little guys

It's really not weather you have bully fish in your display especially a 160 it's the experience level that matters not how there takin from the ocean if they made it from the ocean to a fish store in Canada then to your tank then died, it's not because the way they were handled it's the experience level of the hobbyist who purchased it weather it be not researching enough BEFORE purchasing not after , which I read in a comment here that the person research info on the dish after they bought it then put it in there tank ten it dies then they researched info on the fish that's a little ass backwards , these fish in the right hobbyist tank should flourish . Seen to many post about dead fish check your levels and make sure you have as much info on the fish before it's bought an make sure your tank will be able to handle the fish first ..... then buy not the other way around ...

dont they die due to the "cyanide" capture process of some divers?

imo it would have showed signs of  having a problwm before it was bought , how long was it in the tank of the owner, the store it was bought from . then from the ocean

reefreak.... cyanide caught fish will suddenly die without reason. You can be the best reefer in the world and a month or six later the fish will still drop dead with no forewarning. Really have to know where your getting your livestock from to be sure and it's difficult to determine as it requires looking further than the LFS... to their suppliers, to the exporter, and ultimately the people that catch them.

I have to disagree with this from Reefgeek "It's really not weather you have bully fish in your display especially a 160 "

Sweeping statements like this are not very helpful and ultimately untrue. If your new fish cannot eat out of the water column because other aggressive eaters get all the offered food then obviously your newly purchased tank mates will die. Its as simple as that. These are a shy fish to start and need to be coaxed into eating frozen/flake/pellet food as they do not eat out of the WC in the wild. Mine are now starting to eat right out of the turkey baster but it takes time and patience as you alluded to when you speak of the experience level of the hobbyist. I have made and continue to make mistakes as I am sure you have as well.
I do agree that buying on impulse is a bad idea. Remember, if the LFS has a fish that you just cant live without because it looks cool, they can always get another one next week after you do your homework
