are you sure it is ick may just be little damage to fin and a bit of fuz that will clear on it's own but if you have a qt tank I would put him in there and keep a eye on him

Yes for sure is ick. Figured the qt tank was my best bet. But also didnt know if ick will just go away on its own because I've seen very successful tanks with fish that have ick.. Didnt know if I should just throw his im my tank or his own but thanks for the advise !

Same here, had fish that had a white spot that I thought was ich...never was. All was good. QT is best, but there are tons of options. You can introduce the copperband to your tank, if it is ich, it can be beat, but you risk loosing a fish or two. All just matters what you are set up for or willing to risk.

I heard that when they are caught their fins are susceptible to being torn easily in the nets and this white stuff can grow in the fins that looks terrible but will subside in a few weeks.

If you have a QT, place it in QT. Quarantining is not only for ick. Is about observing the fish for a period of time. Other diseases may be present. Never know.

If you bought it from LFS, the chance that it is infected with ick is probably 99.9%. Even if it shows or not.

Treat it well, good feeding, pristine water, minimum stress, so it can heal quick.

So just an update as im a little concerned with the copperbands progression. Since hes been in the hospital tank and medicated he hasn't gotten better that i would say. The ick is now on other parts of his body where is wasn't before. I've also owned him a week now and cant get him to eat anything! Tried several things. Ever since getting into this hobby is is the only fish i looked forward to getting and would really like him better asap! Any more advise and help at this point would be greatly appreciated

Copperbands are tricky..
They are one of my favourite fish. I have never had any success.  4 copperband losses to date.  I couldn't even get proven eaters to eat.
I wish I could offer some helpful advice, but unfortunately I cant.  All I can do is wish you luck and hope he gets better and starts eating.

You always want to make sure it is eating before you take it home. If its not DON'T bring it home with the mindset that you will get it to eat.  What types of food are you trying to feed him?  Do you have a small rock with some aiptasia on it that you could put in the QT tank.

What method are you using to medicate it or are you just trying to do hypo-salinity?

I'm in sarnia and I can bag u up a dozen or so aptasia from my anemone tank, they are all over my crushed coral. It's not that far to drive. I have some frags too if that makes the trip worth it for u

Talk to Bill at Incredible Aquarium.  He had some Copperbands in a couple of months ago with white spots and he told me what it was but I can't remember off the top of my head.  He treated them and cured them all so call and ask him what he did.  Try Mysis shrimp for his diet if you haven't already.  Some people soak it in garlic to help stimulate the appetite.  Some of the medications used can decrease the appetite and Garlic can help stimulate it.  Good luck

+1  get some aptaisia in there for it to eat. Make sure that your QT is lower than your reef in salinity.  You can drop salinity quickly with no harm, raising salinity has to be done slowly.  Be careful if you are using copper based medications as low salinity significantly increases copper's toxicity.  Even if you don't do full hypo-salinity, lowering the salinity takes a lot of stress off a fish's metabolism leaving it more energy to fight disease.

If you're not using copper based meds, putting a piece of rock in with pods and even just a surface for him to pick at or pick food off might help with the eating.

Mine will pick at the odd NLS pellet but is realistically a live/frozen eater only

I just added one to my tank Friday. Seems to be grazing OK. I would like to grab up some additional Copepods and mys soon. He seems to be happy though. This thread should help even more. Thanks. I grabbed up him, a filefish and a purple dottyback from the LFS and all are doing well. I shouldn't have as they over charge out the ass, but they were impulse buys.

Thanks for all the advise! Before bringing him home I did not see him eat but was told they just ate. The Qt tank I have him in is just a 10 gallon. But I've tried getting him to eat mysis shrimp, krill, flake and pellet food, also put a rock in there with lots of apistasia on it.. He hasn't touched one. I also used the medication Coppersafe which says it stays good for a month.. So cant retreat yet but hoping to get him into my good reef tank before a months time!
