This crab has set up shop under my undata, notice the maintenance chewing he did in one spot to prevent it growing over and encrusting.  Anyone know what type?  I'm assuming he/she will continue to be a nuisance.

i get rid of all crabs now.  i had a few previously that were supposedly acro crabs, and they were supposed to be good.  but after watching them rip the flesh of my acros i tried forever to get rid of them.  wasnt until they destroyed everything and i emptied the tank that i got them out.

Yes, I assumed he isn't reef friendly.  "Bad Crab" is a conclusive enough ID. I doubt I'll be able to get him out alive, I think the easiet way will be to try and scewer him in his lair, as opposed to trying and scooping him out and letting him get away.  I'm fairly confident I can get him where he is currently.

I have one of those same bastards in my tank, I believe it has killed a cardinal fish and a chromis in the last few months, I've tried the trap a few times but this crab doesn't ever leave his little spot, the traps are useless for me, it either trapped my cleaner shrimp or a bunch of snails, but never the crab. I thought about skewering him also but hes just way to quick, I gave that up after a few nights trying. my next idea is it might be possible with a blow gun and a small sewing needle + thread used as a dart. I don't have a blow dart gun so I was thinking of just using some 1/4" plastic tubing, I can get that within an inch of him and then when he pops out shoot him with the needle.. lol.

Please, please, please grab a video of that!  I was ready to shop vac an unruly coral banded one time - I love these unique approaches to capture.

lol re: the laser pointer.  I'm not sure that is my cup of tea.  Knowing me, I'd blind myself, my fish, my dog, and anyone else in the general vicinity.  I interceptor'd my tank not too long ago, and haven't added anything since, so this little resilient SOB survived the series of treatments.  It is actually pretty amazing to see how he has trimmed up that undata to make a little cave for himself.  I have noticed that when the lights are on, there has been a couple of times when he hasn't been in there - must have spent the night at the GF's house, but he keeps coming back to that spot.  I may try and get him out tonight if time permits.

I had a bastard crab that decimated my tank not too long ago. Made a homemade jobber outta a Gatorade bottle. Threw in a piece of shrimp and leaned it up against the rock where he always hung out. Made sure it stayed put with a rock. Woke up and he was trapped inside. He lives in my sump now amongst live rock and cleans up ditritus.

Knowing me if I put him in my sump, I'd re-introduce him to the display at some point when moving stuff around.  I have to catch him first, then I'll decide what to do with him/her.
