I received a Big Als Gift Card for Easter, My daughter knows exactly what to give me LOL So I phoned the London store looking for Snails or a Tube Anenome but they didn't have any, So I phoned the Kitchener store and sure enough they had snails so off I go.

Guess what I found, Crotia Clams for 39 Bucks, what a deal they didn't look great  but I bought one and it's brightening up as we speak, theres a few left I'd get one if you live close.

They are 5-7 inches, and Grey in colour, The guy at the store said they had them a couple of months but their lighting is crap. I took the biggest one. Half hour after I put it in my tank it started to colour up, Now it's a dull blue and opened half way, I've got another Clam but a Maxima that is a bit smaller and I paid 150 for it, I'm thinking I should of bought a couple more, infact I've gotta go to Milton tomorrow and I may stop in there on the way home and pick up atleast one more. If you like Clams they're worth the money for sure. Theres a guy on AP selling Maximas for 250

A maxima clam is in a whole different league then a Squamosa and Croatia, hence the higher price tag.  Although to me, it would be hard to justify a $150-$250 maxima when Flavio has some amazing and relatively large Squamosas for $70.

Flavor owns a runs Advanced Reef Aquatics in Milton, He was part owner of ORG 5 or so years ago, I've known Flavio for at least 10 years. He's very nice guy, You could just drop in to his store and chat. As well he is a distributor for Vertex among other things. I have bought skimmers, RO/DI units, Ato and have ordered my new Maxspect Razor from him.

You are correct Darryl, the one I bought is very close to 6 inches, I've seen them 1 inch, You say that Maximas are different or much better, why is that? Like I said I do have a Maxima that I payed 150 for and I've had Crotia Clams before and I have found that they are not much different in colour any ways.

IME crocea's gradually loose their blues as they grow.  They become interesting patterns of golds and browns but don't hold the bright patterns that maximas keep forever.  Maybe just mine I don't know.

O I see, I've never had a Maxima before, When I picked this one up I was thinking that they were fast growers so I went with one about 4 inches Now I'm thinking I should of chosen a bigger one, Do the Squasmosa get very big?

Croatia and maximas grow really slow, especially in captivity. Croatia typically max out at around 5" and maximas around 8-10".  Squamousa and dersa clams grow much faster (of course they don't typically come in a nice blue colour). They can easily grow 12"++ I. An aquarium.

My favorite for colour would be maxima and my favorite for size and shape and dece.t colour would be Squamousa. Unless your talking about a blue Squamousa which is the bomb when they get large.

Croatia clams really like to bury their foot into a rock but I always would let them attach to a small rock and then put that rock on the sand or bury it.  If you just set them on the sand they really have a tendency to dig down, move around and will attach to the glass.  Maximas like to attach their foot when smaller but don't need or want to as they get bigger.
