love this article, I run RO, no DI... the dogs and I drink the water.. I have read articles that RO/DI should not be consumed...
and I totally agree after drinking the water that if I drink a bottle of water or from another source it does taste like poo..
Nonuser, do you pay for water in your building? I don't (thank god)...on a lighter note, I use ro water in my coffee pot and haven't had to give a vinegar bath for well over 6 mths...

I don't pay for any utilities. I did however but 200 bottles of 18.9 litres of bottled water for 50 cents a bottle (was an auction deal in the newspaper). I'm down to 137 ;) but carrying 4 a week is a PITA

Right off topic now, so might as well also say that yes if you are used to drinking RO water then go to regular it tastes like dirt. I can't even do it generally unless it is cold cold cold. Heath, to your point, it is correct you should not drink DI water.

Yu can buy water from water place like culligan and yu drink it and it's been thru Rodi and ppl use it in saltwater tanks when they don't have a Rodi unit or time to make lots of water

Although drinking DI water is not necessarily "dangerous", it is not advisable at ALL. It strips the water of all natural minerals, some of which like calcium and magnesium are helpful to our bodies.

I am curious. How many people buy RODI water (not simply RO) from a fish store or elsewhere to use in their tanks, and what do they pah for say a 5G jug? I might consider making and selling it myself depending on numbers.

well its $3.50 at per 5g where I get it from but like I say I have a deal 50 cents a 5g. I know Living Aquarium sells it and so does the store in London. But no idea what the price is. I think they sell already mixed stuff. Now that's what I would like

I watched a guy take about 5 or more ro salt mix jugs to his car at living aquarium, one day.

I would be interest in premix stuff if someone would deliver say 20 gallons a week and then take 20 used gallons for disposal. :)

Haha... am I missing something, or is something wrong with the drain for that "disposal"?

The yuppies in Toronto use to drink the DI water in the early 2000s as a diet fad. HOWEVER they soon found out that DI is so pure it was dissolving their stomach linings and escophogus (SP). DI is so pure it will eat metal overtime..... All water wants to have chemical balance (TDS), and water lacking mineral, will absorb mineral, from anything it comes in contact with. Which is why you need plastic lines on your RO & DI units, as copper tubing would quickly start leaking. So... this is why we start our salt mixes with RO &/or DI. It absorbs the salt mix faster (lack of mineral content), and we know there is less chemicals and minerals in the water to combat.

As a side note to ROs, there was a time ( before I became a plumber) when people thought whole house RO was a benefit to cleaning toilets less often. Problem was they had copper pipes in their houses. After a year or two they had leaky pipes and had to get rid of their ROs. Lesson learned.
