Never done it.

Would you lean on your tank as you drill?  essentially what water will be doing.

I figure you woudl want to drill with the lest amount fo water possible in the tank... Less force = less chance to break.

|Ive read on other forums that it has been done , myself I would never attempt it , big chancce if the tank breaks you have to empty it , might aswell empty it then drill it .

ive drilled lots of tanks.  never one that was full tho.
it would not be easy to keep a pool of water to drill in while sideways.  also how would you be sure no glass shavings dont get in the tank.
i doubt i would ever attempt it.

I was planning on doing the same to my 100 gallon but decided to not take the chance, and ended up buying a 135 gallon acrylic tank now i have to swap everything over.

yea, its not hard to drill a tank, doing it standing up full of water is a little different. It is doable, but risky at the same time. As neo said, there are alot of stresses on the glass when full of water.

Saying all this, i would gladly drill your tank....but if something happens, i expect to arrive home in the same condition i left :)

Dale let me know how it goes. I've contemplated NUMEROUS times but I'm so afraid of the what if. I have faith in Phil completely, but the stress on the tank is a lot with water. If it works well for you Phil I may be interested as well. I'm tired of losing syphon.

I read in another forum ..some ppl do it when it's full of water just take out enuff water to about where the bottom of hole will be...they said glass shavings won't hurt fish ...but I guess yu can put putty on the inside to trap it and have a wet dry vacuum going on the inside to just trap it all

The drilling is done and Phil done it with no problem he said that it should take about 20 min and he was right he put 2 holes in and all we did was just lower the water under the spot for the holes and he went at it done in no time with no problems nice clean cut. I just have to tuchup the black paint on the back of the tank.  thanks Phil
