Came across this thread about Elegance Corals, which includes a good video showing optimal flow for them.

Here is the video: Elegance coral flow

There is some controversy about Indo orign Elegance Corals, that they may have a lesser chance of survival vs aussie ones.

I recently spoke to Bill at IA about this, and he mentioned that some Indo carry a bacteria that is easily passed to other ECs that infect the entire shipments. This could be the reason why many of the Indos have failed in captivity.

I agree with Darryl. The indo ones do last longer now.  I had heard a few years ago that they were over harvested and so they had to be taken from deeper waters so the farmers were not bringing the coral up slow enough for it to acclimate to the pressure changes.

I hope so, since mine is from an Indo origin. I have read recent threads on RC from some "experts" that are still recommending the Aussie ones. Maybe some suppliers in the US are still having issues?

Time will tell, since both Phi and I can provide proof of Indo survival in our tanks.

fingers crossed!

i'm feeding mine once a week - though at night it completely retracts back into shell. I didnt see much info whether is should out at all times if the current behavior is normal.

the one thing i did find interesting was they are not a high light coral so i may have to move my further out of the lights than it currently is.

the one i have is a aussie as far as i was told..ive had it for 2 and half years now has gone thru alot of different changes through out the years ..for over a year i had it on the rocks in middle of tank it was the size of a basketball was pink with purple tips never went inside shell was huge , changed tanks  moved to sand-- for 3 months changed colour to green with pink tips size was half of old, --tank busted changed to tank now for the last 6 months colour is now mix of green and pink with pink tips always gos in at night to nothing and is a decent size during the day.. wish it was like what it used to be tentacles were crazy long

what i notice and what could be factors besides the tank switches was...all my flows on it were the same in all tanks so that rules it out.
my clowns hosting it could have changed it
maybe aussie's like rocks instead of sand compared to indos??
sorry if this babble.....

i really dont, i dose reef snow every 4 days to my whole tank so im sure it gets some of that , and my 2 clowns host it so by hosting, the elegance actually gets food from the clowns by the clowns feeding it and by the wastes. it dosnt look huge aymore like it used to but it is happy and heatthly none the less

just remembered also that when it was huge in my old tank i had reverse lighting in my fuge/sump for my macro's but since then i got rid of it all and dont run a lifht on it anymore so maybe it closes due to the drop in ph at night now??

Mine has been responding well, since i have been feeding it PE Mysis. I have only fed it a fe times, but looks great and more inflated the next few days after feeding. I have read to alternate feeding different mouths on different feeding times. It might have adjusted to the flow in my tank as well. A lot of variables going on. I will see how things go.
