External Skimmer. Who Uses One?

So I have always had a internal skimmer but the new sump skimmer area is quite small. The sump is designed for a external skimmer but I m afraid of the occasional overflow. So can u share your experiences with me? Who has used a external skimmer. How do u like it? Any issues?
I m looking at a huge external detltec I may replace my bk with

@pulpfiction1 used to run one external a long time ago. I had a HOB one at one point. Overflows is the #1 reason I don't use HOB or external.

My system I am setting up now is 135 display 90 sump and I m adding a 90 frag tank I will have it well stocked My current skimmer is a bubble king mini 150 and I love it!! It out skims my old euro reef rs250 no prob. Do u think my bubble king will b enough for the new setup?

I would get a higher rated skimmer. All kindsa higher rated then you bk mini.

I use a bk 180 on around 300 gallons. No issues yet but fish are still on smaller side.

I have an ATI bubble master 250 for sale, thing is a BEAST though.

If it will fit in the sump area, I'd stay with the one you have to see if it does the job. If it doesn't, then make the switch to something bigger. No point in buying something new at this stage of the setup.
But you probably planned to do that, right? I'm just adding my 2 cents.
