Need a way to quiet down the noise of pump and skimmer in my aquarium cabinet.  I'm thinking i need to line the inside with some type of foam panels.  Anyone know if it works and what type of foam I should use?

I've had to do this to a clients tank/stand.  It's located in his office right beside his desk.

I used high density insulation foam.  Like the same stuff most use for leveling their tanks.  I used the blue stuff which is supposed to be for exterior walls.  Works fairly well.  But keep in mind.  Once you've insulated the stand.  The noise will go out the back of the stand and reflect off the wall behind your tank.  So there is still noise.  It's no magic fix

You may also want to try old carpet too.  As in most home theater rooms.  The walls are lined with carpet to dampen the noise.  You may want to at least hang carpet on the back of the stand to prevent the noise from escaping through the back.

Which would be more effective for lining do you think? Carpet or foam?  Not sure how much of the back i'll be able to do.

go to futureshop or a car stereo shop and get those dyna mats.    they put them on inside door panels of cars.  to baffle the sound.  they come in rolls sp yu will need a roller to.  its like sticky back and yu cut to fit and peel amd put on walls and roller it on

I'm currently using black flexible hose for drain lines (same as found on washing machines).  Can hear draining water clear as day.  Is flexible pvc or vinyl any quieter?

That's essentially what i have, but a mag pump for return.  Overflow box  is silent now.  Will insulate cabinet and switch hoses.  Hopefully that will be enough.

I took scrap acrylic, covered a side with aquarium safe silicon.. Once dry place your pumps on the acrylic silicon side down and it'll dampen the noise.  Good solution if you have the gear laying around

Yup I've seen that work, I use a sponge most times but ive seen various types of rubber pads used as well - like the stuff they make for kids that interlock in 2'x2' sheets.

Think i'll try sponges underneath piece of egg crate since i have those already kicking around.  Pulling ideas from everyone!  Keep the suggestions coming :)
