Anyone ever tried one of these on an Eshopps overflow box?

Does it work?  My tank is right beside the couch in my livingroom.  Need to quiet down the waterfall sound a bit. Searched on youtube, and apparently shoving a piece of tubing down the drain hose should silence it.  I've not found that to be the case!

I use 2 straight drains. One full syphon and one just a trickle. Dead silent.  It takes some skills to silence a single drain with an air line. I had my frag tank like that pita

I have one similar to that on my overflow.  It works, but it takes a lot to get it adjusted correctly.  I have a CPR overflow box.  It has a hole drilled into the strainer for the drain.  All I did was drill a larger hole and added a larger diameter hose in it.

The idea behind it is to allow air to escape through the hose you add to reduce or silence the gurgle.  You have to start with the hose pretty low in the drain pipe and move it up about half inch at a time till the gurgle goes away.  Allow about 5 mins in between each adjustment for it to level out.

It's a PITA.  But when it works, it works well.
