Ive been using reefsupplies hc gfo but i find its too fine.

First time i bought hcgfo i got it from a forum member who got it from another forum member in london area. Apparently that person is either no longer in hobby or doesnt sell it anymore im not sure. That first stuff i bought was denser bigger grains and allowed more flow in reactor without particles getting into tank.
Im wondering if anyone knows what im talking about and where i can get it. Thanks

Not getting a response from unibob but doesnt seem like hes on here often so maby just hasnt seen my pm. Also from older posts it looks like 10Lbs minimum.

Any ideas how i can keep reefsupplies gfo from clumping up. Everytime i change it after a week and couple days it clumps all together and floats to top of reactor and clogs up. Theres enough flow for a good tumble and just enough so it doesnt go flying all over so i cant really turn it up more.

try rinsing and soaking it in rodi water before putting it in the reactor

Are you sure it is GFO? I have run GFO for years now and have never known it to float. I have had it clump, but never float up. It is heavy and sinks, especially when it clumps.

When i put in reactor i run almost 5g through it into a bucket to "rinse" the dust off until outflow is clear. so i dont think the rinse is the problem.

Torx its high capacity bulk gfo from reefsupplies. In pic you can see about 2.5inch of gfo almost at top of reactor

Its not "floating" freely but once it clumps the flow pushes the clump to the top and it gets stuck there i guess.

That makes much more sense. That happens to me on a new batch or if the power goes out for a bit. That allows it to settle. A quick few taps should free it up. My guess is the pump power is being interrupted or there is too much detris getting sucked into the pump. If that sponge gets clogged it will reduce flow allowing it to clump. eventually it will clump solid and the pressure will push it up. Try adding a sponge filter on the pump or some other way to filter the water gong in.
