Well once again my stubborness will probably cost me alot of money again..bought a PBT yesterday drip acclimated him and put him in my DT...i know i know completely stupid, i figured hey my yellow tang went in just fine and had noproblems, and this was afyer countless ich battles, and leaving my tank fishless for 8 weeks. Anyways he went in completely fine even ate a kittle bit that night but was always grazing the rocks, all pther inhabitants didnt seem at all affected by their new tank mate. Today i go to check and my stupid tellow bloycjed rabbitfish has a couple white ich looking spots....  :| My own fault, but seriously...i think i may be setting up a qt today.. :( dont know what else to do.

i wouldnt worry about, a new addition will stress things out, but just make sure they are all eating and monitor them closely.

if they are regaining their health (immune system back to normal) you can see the ich disappear in a matter of a few days

I wouldn't worry about it either. As long as everyone is eating the ich will clear up eventually and all will be well. You can also buy some garlic puree at your local grocery store and mix it in with your food. Garlic just helps boost their immune system. I have had ich happen before due to stress and never had any deaths from it in the past. If a fish is not eating, then you may have to do a little more drastic measures to help it survive.. ie hyposalinity in a separate tank, etc.

If it is actually Ich and there are a thousand other things that can make spots appear on marine fish including stress induce "hives" for lack of a better term, it didn't come from the PB. (next day is too fast) you had an ongoing low level Infection that brought it out.

The PB will certainly let you know in a week since they have virtually no defenses it will be covered in spots in that time.

If it is actually Ich, the fish that will develop resistance will survive, the ones that can't won't and garlic and selcon and chicken soup will not significantly change that outcome.

Here's hoping that it is just stress and or one of the many similar parasites that lack the ability to complete their lifecycles in aquaria.

If necessary I have a fish trap that I will rent for Frags  ;)

When I introduced my latest tang to the tank, he went through a period of a few spots, ich like, I soaked food with garlic xtreme and the spots eventually disappeared. Did the garlic xtreme help? don't know. Was given this info from an old fish friend who happens to own a store and had a case where a Chinese restaurant had a reef tank and repeated issues with ich until they started adding the garlic xtreme to the food. Co-incidental? maybe, maybe not. Apparently there were issues with temp fluctuations in the tank as the tank was near the kitchen.

Yeahbthatll do it, but if there was constant issues with ich he should left is hostless(fishless) for 8 weeks. Ive always had great luck with garlic, for the most part. But yeah temp flucuations can def bring on ich.

anecdotal, but it worked for them, it certainly won't hurt to boost the immune system if that is truly what the garlic does LOL I went the 8 week route once before leaving the tank free of potential hosts and wasn't looking forward to doing it again, so added the garlic and waited to see if it disappeared and within a 2 week period all his spots disappeared and never returned. I was certainly happy !

I read once that garlic doesn't actually cure anything, just makes the food more appetizing so that they eat better, which in turn helps their health.  Not that it really matters either way, just food for thought! :)

Yeah ive heard that too...i know garlic boosts humans immune system, so whether it works the same way with fish i dont know. But my PBT started getting ich spots yesterday and has slowly gotten a bit worse..should i not worry if theyre all eating normally and being normally active? He eats and is constantly grazing the liverock and picking at it.
