if it is a magnetic ballast, it will use about 485 watts and it will hummmmmmm, and it will get hotttttt, i work at an arena and we had them for rink lighting, we calculated (10 years ago) that 38 of them cost @ $20 per hour to operate, we now use 250watt mh electronic ballast pulse start and they draw less than 1/2 the power and are almost twice as bright.

Alrighty then! Lol... Looks like I'm gonna be running HQI instead. I'll fork out the extra dough up front for quality name brand halides! Any suggestions or wheretos to buy a nice fixture without emptying my pockets? My tank is 72" long by 24" deep... Can I get away with a 48" fixture or do I need a 72"? I plan on keeping hard coral...

if you were considering high bay lights..why not find some SE or hqi pendants? probally be cheeper then getting a whole fixture with t5s built in. Then just build them into your hood
