sounds like a grounding issue. But I really have no idea. you need an amp meter or something to see where the power is going and where it stops

I had an issue like that with some Christmas leds once. Wouldn't work unless I touched the plug... for some reason when I put a dime on the plug it worked fine again lol. I was worried that there was a short somewhere in the plug so just replaced the plug.

If your lights are wired through a power supply the power cord should simply be hooked up with a terminal screw. Easy to swap out...

Another question would be where do you touch for it to start again? The heatsink? Drivers? A wire?

You would even need a multimeter to check for a short. A simple buzzer would do the trick. Just make sure you unplug it before buzzing :)

What kit is it? Rapidled or aquastyle,

Another thing to check would be the drivers if there are no shorts. You could do this by isolating each section of the circuit. Hard to explain if I can't see the circuit though or don't know what drivers you have.

Could barely several different things. Even unplugged, touching a string with you bare finger. Nothing a quick multimeter can't check. I am booked this weekend, but free Sunday next weekend. Can't guarantee good news when you get here though. But I may also be able to get them running.

I made this a while back
Get A multimeter with a diode check or continuity check(standard on most multi meters)... its the settign that makes the thing beep when you touch the touch probes together and do what the pic shows on all your leds... not powered up.
