Internal overflow design

What do you guys think of this internal overflow design from reef savvy?

I think its about 3.5 inches deep and contains 3 holes for a bean animal design.

Reef Savvy Phantom Bottom & Internal Ghost Overflow.

I think I would prefer a full acrylic design versus the tinted glass bottom.

I fired a PM over to JT to see if he can build it

Looks super nice Tyler. I'm confused at exactly what your buying though. Is it just the black overflow itself? Or do you have reef savy or whoever build the tank?

I want to take a guess and say that the bottom panel of the tank is smoked out as well as the back panel making the overflow "blend" in better instead of being the traditional black plastic against clear glass.

Seriously though if that is all it is, I cannot see this being a ground breaking invention... most of us paint the tank backs and have substrates to cover the bottom anyways.....

Looks pretty tall Tee,  u dont prefer something more shallow and wider for better surface skimming?  If ur going with a 4' tank you would benefit from more of a coast to coast just for the increased surface skimming.

i agree, its cool and all, but the only benefit i can see would be constructing one for a DIY tank project where you just wanted to drill holes instead of attempting to notch a coast 2 coast, if your paying for a custom tank, a full external c2c bean animal setup is the best and imo only way to go, the whole point of going external is to free up all the space that an internal box takes up. You will still get a black acrylic insert with teeth for your external setup if you go with a miracles made custom tank, and probably most others too. external overflows are so much cleaner looking too.

Agreed that an external is the cleanest and best space savings option available.
Not totally sold on a coast-to-coast being of a significant benefit versus a "regular sized" overflow.


This design just looks sleek and compact as it is only 3.5 inches deep and the laser drilled slots look pro. In terms of functionality, there won't be much if any difference. It's just an aesthetics thing.


I have just been considering an internal due to the additional space and lack of access that an external overflow offers. Don't get me wrong, external overflows are sweet. Over the years that I have had tanks, I have concluded that if I can't get easy access to the back of my tank, there is always concern for leaking bulkheads, etc.

I like it when the holes are drilled in the bottom so that most issues can be tweaked easily,

My specific situtation is that the new tank will be against a wall and would prefer the overflow to be in the middle.

Also, don't think I will be getting a ReefSavvy tank any time soon, as I got a quote for over $5000- crazy sh*t!

Have you looked into ELOS aquariums at all? I think iirc they have there own kind of overflow/return setup. I know they can be pricey too though.

I'll admit it's cool but They take up a lot of space in a tank. Externals are really nice and if set up properly it shouldn't leak. Tyler if you are looking for a tank I'd go with something that doesn't require an internal. Did you see the Red Sea 650 on AP. that would look sweet in your family room. I know it's 7 grand but I bet he'll take less. I saw the tank. His Garage is full of Tank and accessories.
