I have been battling glass film algae for awile now if i dont scrape my glass every three days u will not be able to see in the tank at all my thing is i heard that if u leave the film algae on ur glass without scraping/removing it for about a month it will eat itself to death because apparently when u scrape it the spores multiply and it starts again so if u have just glass film algae this process can eliminate it?? Not sure if this is true but im having this problem and i do everything right, water changes good feeding etc i did try this method before but i only waited 2 and a halg weeks and it did look like it was eating itself? Any truth in this

This would be the first time I've heard of it, but that certainly doesn't make it untrue. How old is your system?

I say just keep up the scraping, but instead of doing it every three days maybe only do it just before a water change.
(if you do a weekly water change)

best bet is to scrape just the front and use a filter sock on your sump it will catch most of it

Oh yeah i forgot to mention if you do decide to do what i suggested, make sure your all your pumps are turned off before you start scraping so all that junk isn't circulating through your system.

Ya, I usually hear about the same culprits (and fixes) for algae:
RO water (not conditioned tap like I did with my first tank - yikes)
Newer bulbs
Less hours with lights on
Less bioload
Less feeding
More skimming
Phosban reactor
More water changes
Larger water changes
Add inhabitants that will eat it (if possible)
Maintain all param's correctly

I guess try and peg one off at a time and monitor the situation.  Best of luck!
