Having trouble deciding between getting two of following brand of fixture. im thinking having 2 would be a good upgrade for a 48 long 55 gallon. my current setup is a 120 watt 48" current orbit marine led strip fixture.

1)Aqua Illuminations Prime

2) Kessil AW360

3) Ebay (MR 120 LED Aquarium Light Marine Coral Reef 55x 3W SPS Dimmable Full Spectrum)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/MR-120-LED-A...308?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f49aba2c

Seems to me the ebay looks more powerful, but more power hungry but cheapest in price... whats everyone recomend
Thoughts?

AI's proved to be good. But expensive. Also may not be enough for a 4' long tank with just two

Kessils have been proved to be one of the better led options. But also a bit pricey

Ebay and ocean revive have been getter better and better reviews. Both seem to work for growing sps.

All depends on what features are most important to you and how deep your pockets are ;)

-50W - it's like a toy for 48" tank
2) Kessil AW360
http://www.kessil.com/aquarium/Saltwater_A360.php
-90W - the same as 1.
3) Ebay (MR 120 LED Aquarium Light Marine Coral Reef 55x 3W SPS Dimmable Full Spectrum)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/MR-120-LED-A...308?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f49aba2c
-165W
-- no detail specification, but looks like the same as 4.
4) Ocean rivive 165w:
http://www.dhgate.com/product/ocean...dimmable-55/213563657.html#s1-2-7b|1098397713
- 165W includes:
-- 50% Royal Blue
-- 40% white (too much)
-- 10% green white
-----------
So, options 1 and 2 does not work for 48".
3 and 4 will work. But the spectrum is not the best: from option 4 - only 80W blue from 165W.

I have 2 of the new 360w Kessil's with the Kessil controller and love them. Nothing comes close to shimmer affect and the size is nice. I also have the 150 10K and 2 of the Amazon. I think you would be happy with the new 160 with a controller over your 24.

Yes your right I should have stated that out of any LED's and next to MH and Sunlight you can't beat the shimmer and you do not get the Disco ball affect.

I have the eBay mr-120 over my biocube 29. Ya I know over kill for that size but since its probably only a matter of time until I go bigger I figured I would start with something I will be able to use moving forward.
Mine has
  • 16x 10000K
  • 6x 6500K
  • 27x Actinic 460nm
  • 2x Green 520nm
  • 4x Red 660nm
Using some conduit from home depot i mounted it fairly close to the water to keep the light spillage down. I was getting a bit of the disco effect from the reds and greens so I removed the optics from those LEDs only. Now the lights blend together well with a nice shimmer.
Currently cycling so no fish to see how much if any the red and green help with the colors but the piece of shrimp I put in for cycling seems to be the correct color. I will get done pics once I have something other than dry rock to show you
