Mesh filter socks

Anyone know where to get the old style mesh socks?  The Vertex ones have really shitty stitching and don't last too long, the old "plastic" style ones seem to be indestructible, not sure if maybe they just don't make them anymore, because I seem to get the vertex style from everyone.  ??

If they're really soft they're vertex.  The old ones were plastic almost.  everyone seemed switch over a short while ago (even brs)

Salty,  try Acklands Grainger on Bessemer Road.  That's where we purchase all of our high volume filtration products.  I think that they may sell retail and/or since you have a business you could set up an account if you had to.  I think they come in cases of 5 or 10 pcs and around 5 bucks apiece depending on size etc.

Huh? Isn't the mesh finer than the felt? What would be the point of having the mesh inside the felt ones? If it is finer and strains better than felt, then it would be the opposite no?

Depends on the mesh but in water 200 micron felt will catch more than 200 micron mesh.  If you are as intensely serious about your filtration as Glen...and/or too lazy to wash out your felt socks frequently then using a mesh sock inside as a prefilter makes an easier to clean setup.  You could even go finer on the mesh than on the felt.

I have 200 micron mesh and felt. 

The mesh catches the snails, worms, dead hooker parts, starfish, etc that get absolutely embedded in the felt.  So a lot easier to clean both pieces. 




I checked out acklands, and they do have a lot of them, but they're all funky sizes (7 inch diameter x 4 inch etc)  But I'll take another look.

The ones I got were 7x32" but I just cut them down to the size I wanted.  They have 16.5" as well with a 7" ring.  How long are the ones from aquarium places?

What is the standard sizes? Everything I always see advertised only ever gives the diameter which obviously is important to fit into specific holders, but I hate the super long socks.
