Midas Blenny

Hi all!

I was thinking about getting a midas blenny but just thought I would double check first...

I have a 40 breeder with only a clown pair and cardinal. Online it says a minimum of a 30 gallon tank but then states that they can get up to 6 inches long...

how is a 30 gallon tank big enough for a 6" fish? Has anyone ever owned a midas blenny and could you shed some light on this for me?

Super cool fish with tons of personality. They like both some nice open swimming space but also rock work with "safe" size holes and caves to go into when spooked. I think it will do just fine in your tank.

Make sure you have a tight fitting lid. I bought one was about 3" and for a month no problems. Ate like a champ, they do like to find a spot to hide out and just poke their head out.

The problem is they get spooked very easily and I think one day when my lights turned on (timer) he jumped.

I have no idea how he managed to get through a 1/4 inch gap but he did. I found him all dried out a bout a month later.

My tank came with a mesh lid that sits on plastic clips flush with the rim

Yes I do. I will be bringing in a fish order next week hopefully as I'm low on stock minus inverts right now.

that happened to my diamond goby ... poor guy

Yeah I had two wrasses jump, one flew past my face when cleaning the tank and smashed into the wall (He survived apart from being a little dazed) and then the other I found on the floor in front of the tank. I plan on putting a mesh lid together this weekend But now i am thinking maybe a full hood would be a better idea...

They are incredibly beautiful fish. The colours are amazing. The swimming motion is eel like. They are aggressive eaters. But I don't think I would ever get another one.

Because I think they are jumpers and true jumpers are never going to survive long in an aquarium. IMO

I will defiantly be making a top for my tank

I picked up a Midas Blenny at Living aquarium in Cambridge yesterday. Beautiful colors!
He has found a home already in the rockwork and is eating well.
I have glass lids with no gaps...so hopefully that will make sure he doesn't jump!
