More natural other than that just looks, studies say you need it for coral spawning to occur but I think it's more luck lol.

100 % natural lunar and solar cycles is what I.am running. If you are trying to replicate nature then it's a must. A proper lunar cycle is just as important as the sun. You really come to appreciate a full moon, as night veiwing is amazing! Even though most fish sleep at night the reef really comes to life at night. And it's when I do most of my coral feeding.
I used to back in the day run a moon light and I had to manually wax\dim it daily. I did have mass spawning for my corals and it was super cool to see. With that being said it is not really necessary unless you want them to spawn for free food for your corals and fish. I did notice growth slowed and almost stopped for a few months before they spawn and after. Because when they switch to spawn mode they need energy to produce both male and female reproductive cells known as gametes. They need to get the energy for somewhere. So if you want something cool and don't mind messing with coral growth for a few months you can do it. But it is not needed. I would not use your main LED for this as it will wear out your blue faster. I would use one of the after market moon led. I myself don't do this anymore as it can be quite taxing to corals if they are not receiving enough supplemental food through active feeding during this time. It is cool for night viewing as you can set up nocturnal animals that will enjoy coming out at night.
