Last night I was thrilled to come home and find these two little beauties all set up in a quarantine tank.

Dec-2013-two-little-girls_zpsaf85e81b.jpg

They are two little female H. Erectus that Dave purchased from the Coral Reef shop in Burlington.  They are true Captive bred and were bred by a new company called Seahorse Canada located in the Toronto area.  They are in excellent condition and had already eaten their first meal by the time I got home last night.

The 6 week quarantine period will be hard to wait through before I can put them in with the others but it will definitely give me time to make sure they are healthy.  I absolutely love their coloring  :)

That's awesome. I think I want to make my 29 gallon bio cube a home for some seahorses. Unfortunately here in windsor the odd time they appear in stores here they are $300 a piece. Which I know is outrageous. Before 9/11 when border crossing wasnt so tight we could easily cross the border with them and in Michigan they are A LOT cheaper. Maybe you could steer me to a good place here in Ontario even if I have to drive a few hours. I know in the spring I wanna make a day trip to Toronto so the shop you mentioned in your thread was one on my lists while up that way.

Thanks all, it was such a nice "pick me up" as I unfortunately lost two of my adults (Jack and Janet) very suddenly to Uronema two weeks ago.  It happened so suddenly that I didn't have time to treat them.  I am currently treating the main tank with Formalin to hopefully save my remaining 4 seahorses.  So far they are doing very well and I am very positive about them.  Unfortunately, my loss left me with one female (Chrissie) and 3 males who are as yet un-named.  These two little girls will help me have a set of three pairs.  They are eating very well today and I'm hoping will put on a bit of weight now that I have them eating PE Mysis.

Derek, glad to hear someone else is interested in seahorses.  They are very rewarding to keep and I find them fascinating.  There are now three stores that I know of that sell True Captive Bred seahorses which are the best suited to home aquariums in my experience.  They are SeaUMarine in Toronto, Reef Boutique in Toronto and The Coral Reef Shop in Burlington.  SeaUMarine brings theirs in from a breeder in the States and the other two are working with a breeder in Toronto for Canadian Captive bred seahorses.  All are H Erectus.  Feel free to pm me with any questions you may have.  ;)
