Well, I've finally got my bulkheads, the pump is on the way, and the sump is being plumbed in. Time for a leak test I guess...

Hmm... Not sure these pics are posting....

Thanks. It's been full since last night, no leaks so far. There is just something about a rimless tank that makes me nervous. I think it's the whole concept of all of that water only being held together by a small amount of silicone. Ah well... seems to be fine. Now I just need to wait for the return pump to show up, then I'll need to plump it in and figure out how to run this sump!

I would like to get a rimless tank someday. I think it would be one sexy set up a rimless tank with my Orphek Atlantik. Here are a couple of pics. Not my tanks but just to give an idea how good a rimless tank looks like with an orphek Atlantik over it. Anyways looks like you are on your way to a sweet reef tank. Did you ever figure out which skimmer you are going with?

The tank looks really nice, I love the Rimless look, mine has a 2 inch Euro Brase across the front, It keeps the water in when my pump comes on and My Giessman Light looks so sexy on it.

Jewel and Petercar both your rimless tanks and lights look sexy. I just really like the sleek clean white and clear acrylic on the Orphek Atlantik. Just wish I too had a rimless tank. This is a close up of my Atlantik when off and a fts of my tank. Anyways sorry for hijacking your thread. You are definately on your way to what will be a sweet reef tank

I bought a couple of additions for my tank yesterday. Took a drive into Sealife Central. It's a LARGE carpet Anenome. Hopefully it will do good in my tank..... the people at Sealife said it will be fine. Although after doing some reading online, I'm told that they should NOT be with other fish and they WILL eventually get a fish. Is there truth to this? Hopefully not. It's got a GREAT footing on the base of the glass now.

I also got a clam. It has GREAT colours. I'm quite pleased with it so far.

keep it well fed and it won't bother anything in your tank. I believe Ian, Gary and Linda feed raw shrimp every day, well fed, good lighting and your going to have fun watching this baby! Their movement is amazing !
Good luck !

Probably shouldn't be such a new tank as your has had water in it since dec 31?

Anemones like a nice stable tank, all the best with it and yes it can eat fish if it's hungry so keep it fed with shrimp :)

no no... I've had my tank running for 8-10 months now. I'm just in the process of switching it over to a new 100 gallon. It's currently in my 125 gallon tank.

Well I'm on vacation for the next 3 weeks so I thought I had better get going with this tank!

I finished the plumbing.... maybe. Haha! Wow, these bulkheads are a B*$ch!! I had heard that I should silicone the flange and nut, but I also heard that there was no need. Well, needless to say I didn't. *drip drip drip... SHIT! So.... After a ton more work, I loosened the nut, and siliconed it. The tank is now sitting waiting for the silicone to dry. I have all of my live rock and fish in the tank though, so I just have my WP40 running for circulation and the heater running. I'm hoping me not having the sump running will be ok overnight.

So, I also got a reef octopus 150. I gave it a bit of a test run until I noticed the drain line was leaking. Wow! Is it ever pulling out a lot of brown crap! I'm excited to have this tank up and running. A canister filter just wasn't doing the trick.

Sorry about the blurry water, I'll upload some more pics tomorrow when it's not as milky.

Cheers!

Nooooooooo don't silicone bulk heads!!!!!

That's like a bandaid on the bulkhead, bandaids have no place in reef keeping.

Common issues with bulkheads are:
Old washer/ oring,
Washer or glass surface not perfectly clean
Bulkhead not tight enough

Were they new bulkheads?

Brand new bulkheads. O-ring is positioned well. There is no leak at all on the bulkheads now. The silicone is holding it. Only thing I can think is that it wasn't tightened enough. I read up that I was supposed to tighten it down hand tight, and then another 1/4 turn. That is what I did. I was just afraid of over tightening and it cracking. But I agree Poseidon, bandaids are bad... they REALLY hurt when they get torn off, maybe I'll give it another 1/2 turn.
