A lot of theses white cotton ball looking things are all over my rocks ? What is it? And is it bad? I have a 90 with only 3 nassarius snails and 3 trochus snails. I thought I needed more of them for my clean up crew. Is it sperm ? Eggs? Fungus? Help please. Thank you much

From everything I have read, they tend to pop up in newer tanks. Often they seemingly come out of no where, and maybe grow in numbers, then sort of dwindle and go away again. This is what my personal experience was as well, so it all sort of made sense to me. I was mostly getting them in baffles, and higher flow areas, which I also read to be the norm. I found nothing to indicate they are a problem. I started seeing them sort of month 4 and I'm at month 6 now and they are declining as fast as they started.

Ok yes new tank about 4 months old. Where do they come from? As long is they are not a problem I don't mind them. Wifey doesn't like the look of them that being said will they populate or go away?

From most of my readings, there is no general consensus. Most agree it hitches in on something, then grows with calcium, while some believe some on silicates. What they all agree on is no harm. For me, most were in my sump so when I did a vacuum, I siphoned most of them out, and since then there has been a decline for sure.

You were right sewerat! The sand u gave me a few months ago definetly sped up the maturity of my tank over night lol. Thx again. Tank is doing good just panicked a little lastnight but I'm ok now lol. Upgraded my lights thanks to @Tdizz Now have 4 bulb fixture with ati bulbs. Pics will come soon after my brother finishes custom making the canopy for the new fixture.
